How to get there?

The easiest way is to travel by road to one of the two main ferry terminals on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia is

1) Mersing Jetty in Johor or

2) Tanjung Gemok (Teluk Gading) Jetty in Pahang

From Kuala Lumpur:
You can take a bus or drive to Mersing or Tanjung Gemok. The journey by bus takes roughly 5–6 hours, depending on traffic and your chosen route. Both terminals have parking if you prefer to drive.

If you're travelling from Kuala Lumpur, you can therefore book a Sanwa bus to Mersing Jetty rather than getting off at Mersing town and arranging another transfer. Sanwa Express bus does have services that go directly to Mersing Harbour Centre/Mersing Jetty, which is the main departure point for the Tioman ferry in Johor. Current listings show Sanwa routes using “Mersing Jetty” and “Mersing Harbour Centre” as boarding points.

One important thing: Make sure your bus ticket specifically says “Mersing Jetty” / “Mersing Harbour Centre”, rather than simply “Mersing Bus Terminal,” because these are different drop-off points.

From Singapore:
Buses and private transfers are available to both Mersing and Tanjung Gemok, with the journey taking around 5–6 hours.

By Bluewater Ferry:
From either jetty, the ferry journey to Tioman generally takes around 1.5–2 hours, depending on the departure point, sea conditions, tides, and your destination village on the island. It is recommended to be at the ferry terminal at least 60 minutes or earlier before departure to collect and check in for your Tioman ferry.

Ferries can stop at several villages, including Genting, Paya, Tekek, ABC, Salang, Mukut and Juara, so make sure you choose the Salang jetty. Ferry schedules are affected by tides, weather and sea conditions, so it is best to check the latest schedule and book ahead, especially during weekends and holiday periods.

One important thing: Ferry schedules vary with tides and weather, so we recommend checking the latest schedule and booking your tickets in advance.
